J-Mac anniversary fuels new AutismUp Opportunity Awards

Nearly 10 years later, Jason “J-Mac” McElwain’s student-manager-turned-shooting-star moment is still remembered with amazement, and 100 years from now organizers of the new AutismUp Opportunity Awards hope people are still talking about that magical night and the money raised for autism research because of it.McElwain, 27, and Greece Athena’s Jim Johnson, 56, the coach who put J-Mac in that at the end of that Senior Night game on Feb. 15, 2006, have partnered with AutismUp, and on Tuesday announced a new awards luncheon that will honor “those who empower individuals with autism to succeed.” The fundraising event will happen Feb. 11 at the Riverside Convention Center in downtown Rochester. Tickets are $60.
