NYSARC Grant Provides Year-Round Recreational Opportunities

By providing funding for six dances, a picnic, and two variety show performances, NYSARC Trust Services brought meaningful recreation activities to hundreds of individuals with disabilities in Livingston and Wyoming Counties throughout 2015. NYSARC Trust Services is part of The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming’s state organization. For 2015, its Trustees authorized a state-wide distribution of about $400,000 in restricted grants for the exclusive purpose of funding Chapter recreational opportunities. Livingston-Wyoming’s share was $8,000. “The grant helped to fund a whole slate of opportunities through our Recreation department,” says Cathy Sullivan, The Arc’s Day, Community and Intake Services Coordinator. “Many folks didn’t have the opportunity to do things like these when they were in high school. Now, they’re able to take part in dances, shows, and other activities with their friends and peers.”
